Accessibility statement

Our accessibility commitments, the standard we build to, known gaps, and how to tell us when something is unusable.

Our aim

Word for Word is built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. A journal is a place people go when they are tired, distressed, or in pain, so legibility and calm are accessibility features here, not decoration.

What we do

  • Full keyboard operation, with a visible focus indicator throughout.
  • Semantic structure and labelled controls for screen readers.
  • Contrast checked in both light and dark themes.
  • Text that scales with your browser or system setting without breaking.
  • Reduced-motion support for anyone who prefers less movement.
  • Serif Scripture set at a comfortable size and line length.

Known gaps

Some newer areas of the app have not yet had a full audit, and the voice journaling feature depends on browser speech support that varies by device. We list gaps rather than claiming compliance we have not verified.
