What happens to what you write.

What you write stays private, is never used for advertising, and can't be browsed by our team. Here's exactly how we look after it.

The short version

  • Your journal is private from the moment you start writing.
  • We never use what you write for advertising, and we never sell it.
  • No one on our team can browse your journal.
  • You choose, entry by entry, what may be reflected on.
  • You can take everything with you, or remove it entirely, whenever you want.

When your writing leaves your device

We store your entries on our servers so they follow you between devices. When you ask for a reflection, the text of that entry is sent to the provider that writes it — and it is never used to train models. If you never ask for a reflection on an entry, that entry is never sent anywhere for one.

Per-entry controls

Each entry can be marked to:

  • never be reflected on;
  • be reflected on once, but excluded from future pattern detection;
  • be included in or excluded from personal journeys;
  • be excluded from weekly or monthly reviews;
  • stay hidden from previews on the Today screen;
  • require app lock before it can be opened.

What our team can see

We see account and billing details — not journals. If something goes wrong with a particular entry, you can choose to attach it to a support request. That's the only way anyone here ever sees journal content, and we keep a record of it when it happens.

Looking after you in hard moments

If something you write suggests you may be in crisis, we'll set the ordinary reflection aside and show you real support instead. A small number of those moments may be reviewed by trained staff, simply to make sure we responded the way we should have. We explain exactly what's reviewed, and why, on the safety page.

Being straight with you

We don't claim end-to-end encryption. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, but running the service means we could technically reach stored content — and we'd rather tell you that plainly than imply a guarantee we haven't independently verified.

It's your writing

You can ask for an export of your data or delete your account and its content at any time, no questions asked. The full legal detail lives in the privacy policy.
