Terms of service

The agreement covering your account, your content, acceptable use, subscriptions, and the limits of what Word for Word provides.

These are our terms, written in plain language and kept current as Word for Word grows. They're not a substitute for legal advice, but we've done our best to make them clear and fair. If something doesn't sit right, write to support@wordforword.io.

1. Who we are

Word for Word is operated by Justin David Howard ("we", "us"). We provide a private journaling service that offers scriptural reflection on what you choose to write. When you create an account, your agreement is with Justin David Howard, and by creating that account you agree to these terms.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and be old enough to consent to these terms in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for activity under your account.

3. Your content is yours

You retain ownership of everything you write. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store your content, sync it to your devices, and — when you request a reflection — process the relevant text to produce that reflection. We do not use your journal content for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Everything else — the software, design, wordmark, and documentation that make up Word for Word — remains ours. You get a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service on the plan you have chosen.

4. Reflections are not advice

Reflections are offered for personal consideration. They are not spiritual direction, pastoral care, counselling, medical advice, or a message from God. Do not rely on them in place of qualified help. See the safety page.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service to harm, harass, or exploit anyone;
  • attempt to access another person's account or content;
  • reverse engineer, scrape, or overload the service;
  • use the service to distribute unlawful material.

6. Subscriptions

Free features remain available without payment. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. Prices are shown before purchase; see the refund policy.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Billing, tax, cancellation, and refund mechanics are covered by Paddle's Buyer Terms.

7. Availability

We aim to keep the service available and your data intact, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Features may change, and features that depend on third-party providers may be limited by those providers.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided as it is, without implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend an account that materially breaches these terms, does not pay for a paid plan, or creates a security or fraud risk. Where practical we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your content.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Changes

If we make material changes to these terms we will notify you before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.
